world map Mini Framed Print - Free motion embroidery | Print | colour spectrum | rainbow | united | one world
£12.50
World map framed mini print - Based on an original free-motion sewn design by Bek Tainton
This print captures the texture of the fabric and the stitch detail of the original artwork in a vibrant and fun design.
So this design is probably the most complicated I have ever sewn, in terms of scale (the original is over 1m wide!) and complexity (sewing round the entire world as accurately as possible, then cutting it out and attaching it all back in the right order!). The idea came to me during lockdown (yes, this was my lockdown project), of a world united because every single person was facing the same thing. I loved all the rainbows everywhere and wanted to create a rainbow world map, but decided a spectrum would work better. This teeny tiny version of my epic sewing challenge to myself, will bring colour and joy to your shelf! This design is also available as a print (see separate listing).
Free motion sewing is literally like using a sewing machine to draw with, where the fabric is the paper and the thread is the ink. The only difference is that the fabric (paper) is moved under the thread (ink) rather than the other way around! I use a 50 year old Pfaff sewing machine, that belonged to my grandmother. There's no fancy tricks or modern technology, but I wouldn't change my machine for the world!
