Rocket framed mini print - Based on an original free-motion sewn design by Bek Tainton
This print captures the texture of the fabric and the stitch detail of the original artwork in a vibrant and fun design.
This rocket was probably the very first picture I ever sewed, but long before I knew how to free-motion sew. When my son was born, I designed and made a quilt for his cot. I used straight stitch and muddled my way through, having also never made a quilt before! This was long before I ever imagined that my future career lay in front of that very sewing machine. Later on, with a few years free-motion experience behind me, I took that original design and updated it a little and came up with this. As a self confirmed sci-fi nerd, I can say that although this rocket is particularly retro in style, it will definitely take any little boy or girl off on adventures and boldly go where no one has gone before! The perfect gift for any space loving adventurer. This design is also available as a greeting card, a postcard and as a print (see separate listing).
Free motion sewing is literally like using a sewing machine to draw with, where the fabric is the paper and the thread is the ink. The only difference is that the fabric (paper) is moved under the thread (ink) rather than the other way around! I use a 50 year old Pfaff sewing machine, that belonged to my grandmother. There's no fancy tricks or modern technology, but I wouldn't change my machine for the world!
